Falling head over flats. My flats collection, and why you don't see me in heels.

"I have confidence that spring will come again, Besides which you see I have confidence in me"

Edited by Florrie Clarke of Intrinsically Florrie

Within  this week's links I kept noticing a resounding honestly in the  heartfelt posts. When we blog or choose an outfit we are putting  ourselves out there for all to judge, and it's not surprising that doing  the activity can have an affect on our confidence for better or for  worse, especially when feedback starts coming in.
There's also been a  sense of rebellion in the air: from the emergence of the punk style to  controversy over Vogue, and in the week that saw the spectacle which is  the Golden Globes rises a questioning of what the red carpet is all  about.

I'm not a heels kind of girl. I will ooh and ahh at them like everyone else. I think they are gorgeous. The truth is, I don't wear them much. I can count on one hand how many times last year I wore them. That's why you don't see me posting about my new favorite heels, or see them in any outfit posts. I am trying to branch out, find my style, and stay true to myself. I do want to try to wear a little more heels. Like maybe be able to count on my fingers, and toes how many times I wore heels instead of one hand.

My reasons for me not wearing heels? I don't walk well in heels. I'm a clumsy lady let me tell you. I can trip every which way you ever did see. They make me feel fussy. I don't like feeling fussy. My boyfriend, and I are the same height. Okay so he's like a 1/4 of an inch shorter than me. I hate feeling like a redheaded monster towering over him. Most of all I don't lead a heels kind of lifestyle. After work my feet feel like separating themselves from my body, and hiding in a corner for a week

Many women dream about the next four inch patent leather peep toes pumps they are going to buy. I dream about the next crazy color animal print flats I'm going to prance about in. That's right prance, maybe even outright frolic.

Now don't get me wrong there is nothing wrong with wearing heels. Most women love them. Certain types of jobs call for it. Some women can even run in heels, you deserve an award. I see other bloggers looking like semi-goddesses with long legs that seem to go on for miles. If they are for you, then go for it.

But, if you are forcing yourself into heels then stop. If you despise them, and dread wearing them don't do it. If you are sick of blisters, and mushed toes, set the heels aside. Stop putting your money towards more shoes you don't enjoy wearing. I don't know how to put any simpler. It's about time we stand up for what we want be it flats, or heels. There is nothing wrong with me for not wanting to wear heels all the time. I'm not less dressed up because of it. It doesn't make me less of woman. It just makes me, me.

Here is my flat collection. It's modest but they are all mine.

With all my heart,
<3 Vanessa

P.S.
Thank you so much for featuring me in Links à la Mode, it such a huge honor!

  1. Wow that's such an awesome collection! I agree with everything you said in your post. I love boots with heels but not the pumps and stilettos you know? But like you said, the girls who like them and who can actually WALK in them should be given an award.

  5. I call heels "big girl shoes," and the only ones I can wear in real life are platform wedge, but some stack heels are do-able too. I can't abide stilletos. Why? Because I don't drive a car. I walk. I ride a bike. I walk some more. So I appreciate your flats. I wear flats often. And the wedges. I salute your flat collection and the fact they look worn and love. Like you walk, too. Like you live, truly live a life in them.

    Good post!

Even your comments are beautiful. I like wedges sometimes. I own one pair of denim wedges, and they are somewhat comfortable. I only wobble a little in them.

  7. I love your flat collection. It's fantastic and I applaud you for displaying!! I have heels, but love flats or clogs best because they have support and keep me close to the ground. I'm hopeless. Today I twisted my ankle walking to and fro the bathroom in my own home for pete's sake!

  10. You know what, you make SO much sense with this post, and I completely see and understand your point. I, a lot of the time, torture myself in heels..and why oh why...I keep falling on the same trap again. But hey, the industry needs to stop tempting us with ridiculously high heels and bring some sensibility into this world and into our heads.

you have a lovely collection by the way :)

  11. I like having a well-rounded collection of dressy flats for those days when you want to wear dressier shoes but can't don heels because you'll be walking/standing a lot.

  12. I agree! Personally, I'm a total sucker for heels. Been wearing them since I was 12 (10?). But I also love my flats. There are days I just don't want to deal with heels and flats are so comfortable and cute. And no one should feel pressured to wear anything that makes them feel uncomfortable! Great post and great flat collection!!

  13. I think I'm more of a heel woman, like the ones you talk about in your posts. But not the type who hates heels and wear them as well, I truly love them. Of course, I work all day and I must be standing all day, so I don't wear them much to work. I wear them whenever is possible, though! But I'd like to say, there's a wide range of shoes between flats and high heels. Why not trying lower heels, or wedges (Which are the more comfortable shoes of all time in my opinion), gym shoes, military boots, and so on?
I personally don't like flats at all. It's very rare seeing someone really looking good in them, and not looking like a little ugly duckling!
Sometimes I saw nice flats I wanted to buy, then I tried it on and said "oh noes nononono!"! I also feel uncomfortable in them, I feel too much "flat" on the ground and after a while walking in flat shoes (also like converse) my feet and ankles hurt!
So, let's try new things on, like you meant in this post, don't become petrified over a genre, just try new styles and find the most suitable for you!
Anyway, I really appreciate your personal approach to this matter! :D

  15. I'm the exact opposite - I pretty much always wear heels, and I only have a couple of pairs of flats, but I completely agree with you: you should never wear something that you don't feel comfortable in. I have never had any problems wearing heels, and they're what I'm used to so I can run, walk, and do everything I need to in them, but few things look sillier than a girl tottering along in shoes she obviously can't walk in, or which are clearly killing her feet. If they hurt, it just seems ridiculous to wear them for the sake of fashion, especially when there are so many options out there!

  16. I'm exactly the same - nothing but flats.

As a biologist, one of the other concerns I'm very aware of is the potential danger heels can pose to your feet and entire spine. Our feet aren't meant to support the weight of our bodies and cadence at an large angle, and if you're not careful you can do serious and sometimes permanent damage to your bodies. This isn't a popular point in the fashion world, I know, but it's true. Therefore I'm thrilled at all the flat styles being made.

  17. Hehe - as a fellow flats lover, hi! I gave up heels because even the sturdiest ones make my feet hurt after an hour. Wedges are a different story, the lower the better!

The mini trend of kitten heeled wedges is one of my favorite things. :D I have 2 pairs of those & 3 higher pairs.

  18. I used to wear heels a lot when I was younger. I had a pair of black chunky heels when I was in 5th grade that I had to stop wearing because they fell apart.

  19. Oh my gosh, I hope you are okay. That sounds like something I would do.

  20. Congrats on making the list too ! I'm with you, I hate heels. I've made an article some times ago about how feminine you can be without them.

  21. I'm sorta half and half. I don't mind small heels and heeled boots cause I like the clickity-sound they make. But you're absolutely right, never wear something you hate just for the sake of "looking good or fashionable." lovely post

  22. That's a great new perspective though. Our bodies are not meant to live in heels.
